What You Eat Is Important…and Advice Should Only Be Provided By Licensed Professionals.
Let’s begin with some basic education. Just about every single personal trainer claims to be a nutrition expert. When in fact, not many have any formal training aside from a weekend class in nutrition. They get the majority of their knowledge the same way you do; watching TV and reading what they happen to find on the internet. Some even offer free meal plans; which are produced by a software program they bought or a subscription to an on-line service. In a nutshell, they actually fully understand almost nothing. They often call themselves “nutritionists” because there is simply no licensing or qualification necessary to be called a “nutritionist”.
At Lady Trainers To Go, we have a different approach. Every member of our ladies nutrition staff is a Registered and Licensed Dietician, in medical terms an RD/LD. In order to become an RD/LD they have to have a four year degree in dietetics, complete an extensive internship at a medical facility, pass a comprehensive test with the American Dietetic Association, and be licensed by the state of Texas. Their considerable knowledge is far from anything a personal trainer can provide and they are qualified to work together with medical doctors as part of a health care provider team.
Our approach to maintaining a healthy diet is also different than you will find anywhere else. Our female dieticians work with our clients to help them transform their eating style one meal at a time, over time. As an example, during your first consultation with one of our dieticians they’ll talk to you about what you currently eat for breakfast, improvements that you are willing to make, and food that you like to eat. From there, they’ll recommend small changes that won’t overwhelm you and you will enjoy. Subsequent consultations will take place to see how you are doing with the changes they recommended, make adjustments if required, and cover other meals and snacking.
Exactly why do we take this “one meal at a time” approach? It’s simple. Meal plans are infamously difficult to stick to, overwhelm you with massive changes to your diet, don’t take into account your likes and dislikes, and don’t teach you anything. Our goal is to teach you how to eat correctly on your own so you can make the right choices in almost any situation you happen to find yourself in.
Finally, if your dietician recommends using supplements they will explain why they’ve made the recommendation and let you know where you can purchase the supplements.
It’s important for you to know that personal trainers are constantly being contacted by vitamin companies to sell supplements. So they’ll frequently, with no medical basis, sell you the supplements a vitamin company recommends. What they don’t tell you is they get a commission check back from the vitamin company for up to 80% of what you paid for the vitamins. We believe this approach is unhealthy and highly unethical.
Bottom line, we have spent years learning what works best for our clients and it’s a “one meal at a time” approach taught by experts. If you truly want to make a manageable change in your eating habits which will last a life time, we’re the only service that will provide you with the education that you need in conjunction with your personal trainer.
